Silver Star AwardPosted Thursday, June 17, 2004 Required elements 1. Arrange funiture or apparatus in a classroom or gymnasium to create your own landscape and draw a simple map of it. 2. Mark the North side of your map in red and give it an approximate scale. 3. Draw a circle around 6 points on your map and indicate them with stickers or small markers on the objects in the room. Walk between them keeping the map orientated and marking your progress from point to point with your thumb on the map. 4. Copy up accurately a point to point navigation course set by a teacher or friend on a school site map. (see note) 5. Walk or run round the course using paths, fences, walls and other line features on the map as navigation 'handrails'. 6. Demonstrate the use of a compass to orientate the map. |
