Becoming a providerPosted Tuesday, October 12, 2004 1 Young Navigator Star Award Any teacher or youth group leader may deliver all three stages of the YNSA. Please contact the national office to register with the NNAS that you are using the scheme and for purchase of YNSA badges and certificates. 2 National Navigation Award Scheme Operation of the Scheme NNAS courses are run by registered organisations and centres to which candidates apply individually or as a group. Application forms for registration as an accredited NNAS provider may be obtained from the national office or printed off this website and posted. NNAS Course Provider accreditation depends upon the qualifications of those delivering the courses and involves the submission of qualifications to the NNAS committee for approval. Following successful accreditation and payment of the initial fee, providers will receive a registration certificate and further information on operating the scheme. NNAS Badges and Certificates may be purchased by registered course providers on request from the NNAS National Office. Accreditation Information for Organisations and Centres Course tutors for training and assessment should hold a National Governing Body Award qualification. These include : BELA, Walking Group Leader Award, Summer Mountain Leader Award or BOF Coaching Awards. The level of qualification required will depend upon the course levels wishing to be delivered. Qualifications issued by other bodies must be approved by the NNAS co-ordinating committee. The NNAS Gold Award is considered to be at the same technical level as that required for the Mountain Leader Award. The NNAS committee have drawn up the requirements for those wishing to assess at NNAS Gold level. Please see separate page. Candidates may enter the scheme at any Level 1, 2 or 3 depending on their experience, though it is anticipated that most will start at the basic Bronze level and progress as far as motivation, hard work and ability can take them. Whatever the final level achieved, assessors should emphasise to candidates the necessity for constant practice and attention to fitness levels so as to maintain the level reached. Organisations and Centres who use the NNAS as a benchmark for the navigational competence of their leaders must have further mechanisms for assessing relevant leadership qualities. The NNAS awards are for personal performance only and must not be used as a leadership qualification of any kind. |
